Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What is cross-platform attribution?

Cross-platform attribution connects marketing interactions and conversions across websites, mobile apps, and other digital channels to show how they work together to drive results. Branch provides a unified view of marketing performance across paid, owned, and organic channels to help you understand which touchpoints contribute to app installs, engagement, and conversions, even when customers move between web and app.

How does mobile attribution work with MMPs?

A mobile measurement partner (MMP) connects marketing touchpoints to app installs and subsequent in-app activity. When someone interacts with a campaign and later installs or opens an app, the MMP uses available data and attribution rules to determine which marketing touchpoint receives credit. Branch combines deep linking, app measurement, and integrations with advertising platforms to help you understand which campaigns drive installs and what users do afterward.

What is cross-device attribution?

Cross-device attribution connects marketing interactions across devices to help you understand when the same customer engages with your brand on one device and converts on another. For example, someone might click an ad on their laptop, browse your mobile website, and eventually install your app on their phone. Branch helps connect these interactions using available identifiers, identity signals, and supported attribution methods to give you a more complete picture of campaign performance than device-by-device reporting alone.

How does cross-device targeting work?

Cross-device targeting helps marketers reach relevant audiences across devices, such as showing a campaign on someone’s laptop and following up with a relevant experience on their phone. Depending on the platform and implementation, it can use consented identifiers, authenticated first-party data, or other permitted signals to associate activity across devices and deliver relevant advertising.

How do cross-device and cross-platform attribution help my marketing campaigns?

Customers rarely follow a straight line from ad to conversion. They might discover your brand on social media, research a product on desktop, click an email on their phone, and complete a purchase in your app. Branch’s cross-device and cross-platform attribution help connect these interactions so you can understand which campaigns contribute to results, compare performance across channels, and allocate budget more effectively.

What attribution models does cross-device attribution use?

Cross-device attribution relies on two things: A matching method connects a person’s interactions across devices, and an attribution model decides which touchpoint gets credit. Branch uses deterministic matching when reliable identifiers are available and permitted, and modeled matching to fill gaps where platform policies and consent allow. For credit, Branch defaults to last-touch attribution within configurable attribution windows, with multitouch analytics available to show the assisted touches along the way.
